8 May is not only a day of remembrance and victory over Nazism, but also a symbol of the importance of uniting in defence of the values of peace, freedom and democracy. Today, we honour the millions of victims of the Second World War, whose memory remains in the hearts of everyone.
But on this day, we must also face reality. Russia, the heir to the Soviet regime, claims victory over Nazism, yet it is oblivious to the crimes and repression it committed against its own people and other nations.
Ukrainians, like other nations, made a significant contribution to the victory over Nazism. Today, we continue to defend our statehood and uphold the principles of freedom and democracy. Our struggle now is a struggle for the future.
