In recent days, several important events have taken place on the development and security of Bessarabia and the Danube region. They were attended by both local leaders and international representatives, which underscores the importance of the region for Ukraine and its role in the international arena.
Yuriy Maslov, Head of Ukraine Rebuilding Alliance, spoke about the significant efforts made to develop Bessarabia:
“We have worked and discussed a lot about the meaning and approaches to the development of this unique region. On the youngest landmass in Europe, the importance of the Danube Strategy for Ukraine and the role of the Danube as a great bridge between Ukraine and the EU is particularly felt. We talked a lot about how much we can do together for the prosperity of Bessarabia. We discussed the need for BlackRock’s involvement in land reclamation and the upcoming approval of our Lower Danube Water Management Plan.”
Another important event was the III Danube Prayer Breakfast, organised through the consolidation of efforts of Christian churches in Ukraine and a member of Ukraine Rebuilding Alliance, a member of the Odesa Regional Council, Veniamin Ungurian. The event was attended by mayors of Bessarabia, MPs and representatives of the clergy.
“On our initiative, Kurt Volker, a member of the International Security Working Group, who served as the US State Department’s Special Representative for Ukraine and is one of those who most actively defends our national interests in the international arena, visited the south of Odesa region for the first time. Together with my colleagues and the American diplomat, we held a meeting in Izmail on all the important issues of security and protection of the south of Odesa region from the racist invasion. We heard powerful messages of support. We also presented to our American partners the project of a future rehabilitation centre on the basis of the Danube Regional Hospital,” said Veniamin Unguryan.
The heads of the districts, including Rodion Abashev and Mykhailo Sharafanenko, emphasised the important role of the communities in the south of Odesa region. They hosted many refugees and ensured Ukraine’s food security during the war. And Kurt Volker, the U.S. Department of State Special Representative for Ukraine (2017-2019), said in his speech: “Russians will never take over Bessarabia!”
These events demonstrate that only through consolidation of efforts can real results be achieved. Together, we can do more for the prosperity of Bessarabia, ensuring a stable and secure future.
