195 years of Odesa National Scientific Library – a significant event for the whole of Ukraine

We are celebrating the 195th anniversary of one of the oldest and most important scientific and cultural institutions in our country – the Odesa National Scientific Library. For almost two centuries, it has been and remains the custodian of Ukraine’s invaluable cultural and scientific heritage, a centre of intellectual thought and knowledge development.

On behalf of the Alliance for Restoration of Ukraine, we were honoured to join this important event and contribute to the preservation of national values. We donated a unique old printed edition of 1813 – the liturgical book ‘Lavra Pentacosterion’ – to the library’s collections. The systematic catalogue of the Kyiv Theological Academy for 1892 describes only one copy of this edition. Therefore, it has an invaluable scientific, cultural, and historical value.

‘Today, when Ukraine is reviving its national shrines, the preservation and enhancement of our cultural heritage is of particular importance. We sincerely hope that this gift will help the library to strengthen its role as one of the main scientific and cultural centres of Ukraine, and will also become the basis for new research,’ said Yuriy Maslov, Chairman of Ukraine Rebuilding Alliance.

‘We are sincerely grateful to the library staff for their work and dedication, and we hope that our cooperation will continue in the future. Together we can preserve our history and multiply our achievements for future generations.
